Psychiatric knowledge on the Soviet periphery: concepts of psychopathology in East Germany and Czechoslovakia, 1945–1980

Sarah Marks BA (Hons) MRes MA is studying for a PhD on the history of psychiatry in Communist Czechoslovakia and East Germany. She holds a BA in History and an MRes in East European Studies from UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, and continued to study for an MA in the History of Medicine at the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL. Drawing on approaches from cultural history  and Science and Technology Studies, Sarah's research focuses on medicine, science and technology in the Central and East European region in the 20th century, as well as the history of psychopathology and psychotherapeutics in a broader international context since the 18th century.
