The Common Room is normally open throughout IHR opening hours, and is available to all users of the Institute. Occasional closures are shown in the IHR Diary.

Hot and cold drinks and snacks are served from 9.00 am until 6.00 pm, and a hot lunch is available from 12.00 noon until 2.00 pm, on weekdays. On Saturdays and in the evenings, self-service hot drinks are available until 45 minutes before closing time.

The Common Room is also available for hire at some times.
