Prizes

Since 2005, we have awarded the Michael J. Kennedy postgraduate prize, in memory of a former secretary of the society, for the best communication by a postgraduate at the Summer Conference. More recently, we have established the Presidents Prize awarded to the best communication by an early career scholar. We also offer an annual book prize of £1,000 to early career researchers for the best first monograph on any aspect of the history of Christianity, published that calendar year.

Susan Royal (Lecturer in Reformation Studies, University of Durham), writes:

As a postgraduate, the EHS was wonderful: it offered conference bursaries, gave not just one but two opportunities per year to present my research; and it allowed me my first publishing opportunity. As an early career scholar, I continue to value the chance to present research and hear that of others, but more than anything, I appreciate that the EHS is a friendly, learned, and engaged group of people, and I look forward to being a member of the society for years to come.
