John Taylor - not just the water poet

05 February 2013, 17:15 - 19:15

Event Type: Seminar

Speakers:

John Chandler (VCH Gloucestershire)

Description:

John Chandler has revisited the journeys of John Taylor and in this paper discusses his advocacy of waterborne trade and communications generally in the early 17th century. His most vigorous campaigns were intended to boost the economies of two cities - Salisbury and Gloucester - by encouraging them to exploit their rivers and develop as commercial hubs.  He will also examine recent work, which has given Taylor a higher profile in the genre of travel literature.

Venue: The Court Room (Senate House, first floor)
