Mobilising London’s housing histories: the provision of homes since 1850
27 June 2013, 09:30
Event Type: Conference / Symposium
Our keynote speakers are Professor Jerry White (Birkbeck) and Professor Andrew Saint (Survey of London, English Heritage).
As a growing metropolis, London is in the middle of a severe housing crisis, widely evidenced in the press and featuring in political debates. The problem of creating adequate homes for a growing demand is not new. The Centre for Metropolitan History (IHR), in association with the Survey of London (English Heritage) and the Urban Laboratory (University College London), is organising a two-day conference to explore issues relating to the history of urban or suburban housing from the mid-19th century to the present day. This conference will seek to examine the history of housing provision in London, and how historical research may be mobilised to address the contemporary crisis.
The programme is available at: http://www.history.ac.uk/sites/history.ac.uk/files/housingprogrammea4.pdf. For more details, including how to register, please visit the conference page at http://events.history.ac.uk/event/show/7235.
