John Newling is Professor Emeritus of Installation Sculpture and a pioneer of public art with a social purpose. Many of his works emerge from his use of his own garden as a studio and a source of materials. This paper is based on an unpublished text about his struggle to cultivate a lemon tree in soil created from 85% paper.
