Society for the Study of French History 24th Annual Conference

Event type:
Conference
Date:
27 June 2010 - 29 June 2010

Proposals are invited for thirty-minute papers (in either English or French) on any aspect of French history from the late medieval to the modern period. Proposals for panels of two or three papers are also invited.

Theme: Ageing and Health in French History

Our theme is not exclusive as to subject. Panel-paper contributions can properly reflect the broad diversity of the discipline of French History. However, we would be particularly interested in receiving proposals in and around the following subjects:

  • Issues around theoretical frameworks and historiography of ageing and health
  • History of Medicine
  • Public Health Policy
  • Treatment of Demographic Issues
  • Mental Health
  • Treatment of Old Age in French Society and or as a historical subject

We therefore invite the submission of papers that explore this theme from various angles and perspectives.

Extended deadline: 15 February 2010

As always, the conference welcomes papers on metropolitan or overseas France, on its diverse cities or regions, and on all issues including class, gender, race, etc. Plenary speakers at this year’s conference are Elinor Accampo (University of Southern California), Colin Jones (Queen Mary, University of London). Proposals, including an abstract of no more than 250 words and a brief CV, should be sent electronically to ssfh2010@ncl.ac.uk. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2010.
