Modern Records:challenges and opportunities

The Conference will examine the challenges and opportunities posed by modern records of religion. We shall explore the documentary legacy of Pentecostalist churches in Britain and learn about a project which has been recording oral memories, and collecting historical materials, of the Rastafarian community in the West Midlands.  There will be a paper on the management of modern records at The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and an Anglican view on how to tackle electronic records. We shall be discussing the impact of recent legislation, particularly Data Protection and Freedom of Information. Finally, there will be a presentation on the compilation and use of religious statistics in the UK.
