The Hudson Trust Conference in Naval History - Navies in War and Peace, 1754-1989
Recent years have seen a new expansion of naval history. With new aspects of the subject being researched and current perspectives being expanded, the attraction of the subject to new scholars has grown, and in response fresh and innovative questions are being addressed. This conference provides an opportunity for researchers to present papers before an audience of research students, naval personnel, and recognized authorities in Naval History including N.A.M. Rodger and Andrew Lambert. Speakers will give papers of twenty minutes on their current research followed by ten minutes of questions from a supportive audience.
The evolution of navies in response to local and global challenges through war and peace is a recurrent issue that is seen in both past and present. Thus, the conference focuses on how naval powers of the past coped with these issues in reaction to the challenges they believed lay ahead and further asks what lessons can be learned for today. Papers are welcomed on social, economic, political, legal, cultural, operational, technological, and intellectual aspects of naval history in current perspective. Researchers of neighbouring disciplines are particularly encouraged to participate and share their approach to naval history.
