The Battlefields Trust - - Yorkshire Battlefields - History and Heritage

Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th April 2010 Venue:  The Great Western Monkbar Hotel with a short walk from The Shambles and Minster.

The historic city of York is the host for the Battlefields Trust Annual Conference 2010 and is easily accessible by road and rail. A meeting point since AD71 when the first Roman Legion formed their new outpost of the Empire then called Eboracum.

Join fellow history enthusiasts for a weekend of activities on the history of Yorkshire and walk two of the most famous battles – Towton and Marston Moor with re-enactors and tours.

Friday 16 April

Arrival and registration at the Monkbar Hotel, York

18.30               Welcome by the Chairman, Mr Frank Baldwin.

19.30               Buffet Dinner (in Hotel) - Talk by Keith Mulhearn on ‘The Battlefields of Fulford &

                        Stamford Bridge

Saturday 17 April

9.30                 Helen Cox on ‘The Battle of Wakefield’

10.30               Coffee Break

11.00               Dr Phil Stone, Chairman of the Richard III Society ‘Bloody Battlefields - War, Gore and More!’

12.00               Glenn Brooks ‘The Battle of Towton - a soldiers view’

13.00               Lunch

14.00               Optional Visit and Tour of the Battlefield of Towton, talk and demonstrations.  (Please book and wear adequate clothing as some walking).

16.30               Afternoon Tea

19.00               Meet at the Merchant Taylor’s Hall (10 mins walk from Hotel)

19.30               Dinner with Guest Speaker Mr Robert Hardy (subject to filming commitments)

14.30               Optional Visit to the Civil War Battlefield site of  Marston Moor 1644.  Please book

There are day rates which include all refreshments and weekend rates at the Monkbar Hotel including a 3 course dinner at the 15th Century Merchant Taylor’s Hall with guest speaker Robert Hardy. There is disabled access and dietary needs can be catered for.

Inclusive weekend rates - Friday evening to Sunday afternoon - £267 per person (£535 per couple).  Day Rate £45 incl of Refreshments (Saturday) Day rate (Sunday) £35 incl Refreshments. 

Single £322 inclusive weekend. Non members welcome but priority given to Members of The Battlefields Trust.
