Quilts 1700-2010 Hidden Histories, Untold Stories
In conjunction with the exhibition Quilts 1700-2010, a two day interdisciplinary conference will be held from 11 – 12 June 2010 at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The conference will bring together cultural, social and textile historians, artists and practitioners to discuss three hundred years of British quilt making. The four key themes of the conference are:
- The Domestic Landscape
- Private Thoughts, Public Debates
- Regional and National Identity
- Making a Living
We are particularly interested in new, unpublished research that places quilts and quilt making within a wider aesthetic, social and historical context. Proposals are invited of 200-250 words that address one of the four major themes of the conference for presentations of 20 minutes or panels of one hour. A panel should comprise three discussants and a chair. We would particularly welcome proposals from postgraduate students.
