Wenceslaus Hollar Conference
Papers/presentations are invited from faculty/graduate students for a one-day conference on Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) and the culture of his times. The focus of the conference extends beyond Hollar's own work, to encompass topics relevant to his work. As Hollar's prints and book illustrations are related to a variety of expanding areas of knowledge in Early Modern Europe, it is hoped that the conference will be wide-ranging.
The conference will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Book History and Print Culture Program at the University of Toronto. More details of the call for papers may be found at: http://bookhistory.fis.utoronto.ca/Hollar.pdf , but the call for papers deadline has been extended to 15 November, 2009.
Scholars interested in participating in/attending the conference may contact Dr. Anne Thackray (email: anne.thackray@sympatico.ca).
The conference is held in connection with the 'Wenceslaus Hollar' exhibition at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, University of Toronto (January-April, 2010): see http://www.library.utoronto.ca/exhibitions/upcoming/html. Much of the Library's collection of Hollar material is available online as a digital collection.
The conference is sponsored by Canada's Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's Major Collaborative Research Initiatives Program, through The Making Publics Project (http://www.makingpublics.mcgill.ca)
