Description

Keynote speaker: Dr Sarah Salih (KCL)

The Middle Ages live on in the post-medieval world, creatively re-imagined and restored in the art, architecture, literature, culture, and ideologies of individual and collective imaginations. London – a city whose medieval history clashes evocatively with its modern cityscapes – is the fitting backdrop for the Interdisciplinary Seminar on Medievalism, a new seminar series that will explore the manifold methods and motivations for transporting ‘the medieval’ across temporal boundaries. For its inaugural symposium, the seminar organisers invite proposals for twenty-minute papers on ‘Experiencing the Middle Ages in the Post-Medieval World’. Topics for individual papers might include (but are by no means restricted to):

  • Political Medievalism
  • Medievalism and Film / TV
  • Medievalism in Popular Culture
  • Literary Medievalism
  • Medievalism in Art and Architecture
  • Modes of reception
  • Eco-Medievalism
  • Medievalism and Gender

Please send proposals of no more than 250 words with a brief CV by 31 July 2017 to Dr Simon Trafford: simon.trafford@sas.ac.uk

Registration for this symposium will open in August 2017
