Friends

The Friends of the IHR is our largest group of supporters and comprises all of our donors who give a minimum of £30 per annum.  Friends not only provide the Institute with vital support, they also have the opportunity to become involved in the life of the Institute.

Our Friends receive:

  • Email notifications of our events programme, including new social events created primarily for our Friends (you can learn more here)
  • Advanced booking and special opportunities, such as invitations to events run by some of our partner organisations
  • Copies of the Institute’s magazine Past and Future, available either electronically or in print
  • An invitation to our Christmas party
  • An invitation to the Friends’ Annual Meeting

In addition, if you let us know about your specific interests, we will let you know about any opportunities that may arise, which we think may be of interest to you. The IHR runs over fifty seminars per fortnight and we always adding new events to our calendar.

Contributions from the Friends have enabled the IHR to continue to develop as a centre for research and discussion for all with an interest in history. In recent years the Friends have contributed generously to the refurbishment of the Common Room, the installation of a much-needed security system in the Library, and the acquisition of new books for the Library.

Anyone from around the world can become a Friend, although we have a separate group which allows our American donors to give more tax efficiently.  To find out more, please see The American Friends of the IHR.

To become a Friend, you can make a donation via Direct Debit or credit card online.

Alternatively, you can send us a cheque accompanied by this form.
