About History Online
History Online is maintained by the Institute of Historical Research (IHR), at the University of London; it is a project of IHR Digital. History Online aims to offer a comprehensive service for the history community in UK Higher Education, providing information not just about resources for historians but also about the history profession.
Bibliographic information (books and journal articles) is updated quarterly. The listings of UK teachers of history, theses completed, theses in progress and grants are updated annually.
As well as receiving funding from the JISC and the University of London's School of Advanced Study (SAS), History Online is also supported by the following publishers: Adam Matthew Digital, Ashgate, Manchester University Press, Oxford University Press, Pearson Education, Routledge, Wiley-Blackwell, Yale University Press.
The IHR has been running a gateway and server since July 1993 with the primary aim of promoting high-quality resources for the teaching and learning of history in the UK.
The IHR received funding from the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) under JISC 5/99 Developing the DNER for Learning and Teaching to further develop History Online.
In 2010 the IHR received funding from the SAS Dean's Development Fund to enhance History Online. The site was relaunched on a new content management system, allowing cross-searching of all materials, as well as the option to export and share the data through RSS and RDF technologies.
