The printed edition is updated and issued annually in January, based on information supplied by the universities and colleges represented: where no information was forthcoming, last year's names were repeated.

Teachers of historical subjects are included whether they are members of a school of History or not, and the principal departments represented are listed in the heading to each institution. Historians in all institutions funded by the various Higher Education Funding Councils are included.

Names are listed alphabetically and heads of departments, where known, are marked with an asterisk. Staff who have taken early retirement but are still teaching part-time may be indicated in various ways by different institutions. Abbreviated descriptions of teaching areas are appended in round brackets, and current research interests are within square brackets. Email addresses are also supplied.
