ARCHON includes details on all repositories in the UK and overseas which are noted in the indexes to the UK National Register of Archives. The gateway is hosted and maintained by the Historical Manuscripts Commission. It is possible to either search or browse the site. The search engine allows searching by ARCHON reference number, repository name, town or county. It is possible to browse by geographical location. As well as providing details on archives the web site has an A-Z of professional organisations. The site also maintains a large selection of links which are organised into the following categories: Archival and Library Gateways, Archival Mailbases, Archival Standards and Practices, Conservation, Electronic Journals, Electronic Projects, Genealogy, Related Projects and Training. ARCHON provides a valuable resource for anyone wanting information on UK archives. It is well organised and is easy to search or browse.
