http://moa.umdl.umich.edu/

Making of America is a digital library of primary documents relating to American social history. The primary documents are full text books and journal articles from 1800-1925, although the majority of the material is from 1850-1877. The subjects covered include education, psychology, sociology and religion. Approximately 1,600 books and 50,000 journal articles are included in the database. The database is fully browsable and searchable. It is possible to carry out either an advanced or basic search. The advanced search facility supports boolean, proximity, frequency, bibliographic or index searching. Online help for effective searching and browsing is available. The documents are presented as facsimiles of the originals and work is currently being carried out to produce electronic text versions of the documents. This is a fascinating collection of nineteenth century books and articles which are both well presented and easy to access.
