The Mundus Gateway,
published by the School of Oriental and African Studies, provides
an online guide to the archival collections in the British Isles
that hold material concerning the history of missionaries. Available
are descriptions of over 400 collections, from more than 50 institutions
in the United Kingdom, covering missionary experiences and activities
in Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Pacific Islands during a period
of 200 years. Mundus provides descriptions of all of the collections,
with a summary of the contents, background information and the details
of the institution the collection is held in.
The collections can
be searched by freetext, personal names, place names, organisational
names and subjects, and an interactive map enables users to execute
a geographical search. In addition to this there is also a gallery
of photographs, drawings and prints depicting missionary life available
for viewing online, and a selection of useful web links.
