Friends of Devon's Archives

http://www.foda.org.uk

This is the website of the Friends of Devon's Archives, an organisation which supports the work of the local record offices for that county. Brief references are made to the organisation's involvement in projects such as: sources of black history; the eighteenth century Devon research project; and a project to index the Tithe apportionments which map most of rural Devon in the 1840s. The eighteenth century Devon research project, in particular, is represented on the website with examples of transcripts of documents like the Devon and Exeter Oath Rolls from 1723, compiled in the aftermath of the Jacobite Atterbury plot of 1720-1722. As well as contact and subscription information the website includes links to the repositories that one should visit for research in Devon and around that region of the West Country of England, including Exeter, Plymouth, and Dartington. There is also information about the organisation's work and events towards the promotion and preservation of historical and written records throughout Devon and to raise public awareness of their importance for research and education, including their financial support for the acquisition of Devon documents.
