Access for disabled users

The Library is accessible to wheelchairs users on all floors, providing that the lift is functioning. However, narrow spaces and heavy doors in some locations may mean that readers need to get assistance.

Book retrieval service

Library staff are happy to bring materials to users if they are having difficulty accessing a particular area of the library. If possible, it would be helpful if readers could telephone in advance to request this.

Assistive Equipment and Technology

  • An Adjustable Table is available in the British Local History Room opposite the Pollard Room entrance. Please contact library staff (via library office or reception) to get it adjusted. Laptops can be used at this location, and we may be able to provide one if this is requested in advance.
  • Dolphin LunarPlus Screen magnification software is available in the basement reading room, for use with the library catalogue and electronic resources. A manual is available from the library office, and a quick reference guide is available beside the PC.
  • Two 'daylight' lamps with magnifying lens are available from the library office. Please ask staff if you need help setting these up or moving them to your preferred location.
  • A magnifying glass is available from the library office.

Library leaflets and guides

Library leaflets can be made available in larger sizes. Please ask in library office or email ihr.library@sas.ac.uk if you have any special requirements.

Photocopying assistance

Library staff are able to assist users who are having difficulty using the photocopiers. If staff are unable to help immediately, copies can be posted or collected at a later stage. Please go to the library office or ask the receptionist to contact the duty librarian to arrange this.

Please let us know if there are any other aspects of the library which you feel could be improved on. Library staff are happy to help users with individual requirements.

Please also see the general IHR disability statement.
