Cobb, Professor Richard Charles (1917–1996)
Though a British historian, Cobb spent much of his life in France and consequently brought a comprehensive knowledge of the original archives to his work on French history. He was associated with the 'history from below' group, but has been seen as particularly significant because of his stress on the individual and rejection of theory-based generalisations.
