Who were the nuns? Database Live

The database created by the Who were the nuns? Project is now live in beta test mode at www.history.qmul.ac.uk/wwtn

It covers the period of exile c.1600-c.1800 and includes members of all the English convents and the Mary Ward Institute, together with their immediate families.  The data is derived from a wide variety of sources, manuscript and printed; many of them still held in monastic archives. As well as the database there is supporting material to help you get the most out of the searches. Three different types of search are currently possible: these are explained in ‘Getting Started’. Details about the research behind the database, sources and abbreviations and short histories of each convent are found by clicking on the ‘About’ heading.

We would welcome all comments and feedback from users. Please send your comments to Caroline Bowden (Project Manager) at c.bowden@qmul.ac.uk
