Navy Treasurer c. 1546-1836

A provisional list compiled by J C Sainty, January 2003

Introduction

This office had come into existence by 1546 when its holder was granted a salary by letters patent under the great seal. Thereafter the office itself was granted in this fashion. Except where otherwise specified tenure was during pleasure. The patent salary, originally 100 marks, was raised. Hutchinson was appointed at £1000 in 1651. Carteret and Anglesey were appointed at £100 in 1650 and 1667 and Seymour at £2000 in 1673. The salary was fixed at £3000 between 1689 and 1699 when it was reduced to £2000. It was again raised to £3000 in 1818. The office was abolished in 1836.
