Ordnance Masters 1544-1855

A provisional list compiled by J C Sainty, May 2002

Appointments to this office were made by the crown by letters patent under the great seal. Tenure was for life until 1663 and during pleasure thereafter. The patent salary was 200 marks. The office, which was united with that of master of the armoury in 1671 (C 66/3130 no. 8), was abolished in 1855 (C 66/4988 no. 30).
