British History Online: Review of January - March 2009

British History Online’s AHRC-Funded Project

British History Online continued to add volumes to its project to complete the digitisation of the Calendars of State Papers, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Thanks to the AHRC funding all of these series will be freely available without charge or registration.

For these series we have continued to add our annotation tool which users propose scholarly annotations, to correct, update, and amplify these key historical resources. For an example annotation see the bottom of this page.

Complete AHRC-funded series which went online in the period January to March 2009  included:

This series calendars Spanish papers concerning relations with England for all the Tudor monarchs up to Elizabeth. The Elizabethan papers can be found in the complementary Simancas series which is already live on the site.

This volume consists of Record Commission transcripts of documents found mostly in Normandy, and dated up to 1206 (the end of English control of the region).

Covers the Vatican’s relations with Elizabethan England up to 1578.

Covers petitions to the Pope from the accession of Clement VI until the 16th pontifical year of Antipope Benedict XIII. The latter entries to this volume deal largely with Scottish petitions, since the Scots adhered to the Avignon papacy.
