Surveyor of Marine Victuals 1550-c. 1679

Introduction

This office was created in 1550. Appointments were made by the crown by letters patent under the great seal. Tenure was for life until 1635 and during pleasure subsequently. The patent salary, originally £50, was raised to £250 in 1679. The existence of the office has not been traced after that year.
