SAS studentships

The School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London is offering postgraduate studentships, commencing October 2012, and doctoral level in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The SAS is a group of ten prestigious research Institutes, seven of which offer master’s programmes and doctoral supervision. More details about the Institutes and the courses they offer can be found by visiting the School of Advanced Study Website.

The School’s unique concentration of interdisciplinary Institutes offers an exciting venue for postgraduate work, including the unrivalled library collections in the Bloomsbury area. Students at the School enjoy full access to the academic, sporting and other facilities of the University, as well as proximity to the rich cultural offerings of London. SAS studentships can be held in any subject offered by the School.

We offer a number of studentships and bursaries for both Master's and research degrees:

 

  • In 2012, the School will offer a number of research studentships and one Master’s degree studentship under the AHRC BGP awards scheme to Home/EU students, both full- and part-time, registered at one of the institutes of the School commencing in October 2012 from the following subject areas:

    • History
    • History of Art
    • Law (within the subject area boundaries of the AHRC)
    • European Language and Culture
    • Cultural Studies
  • We offer two full bursaries for doctoral study which cover tuition fees and a maintenance grant, awarded on a competitive basis to students registered at one of our institutes and about to start their first year of study.
  • Some of the institutes also have their own bursaries.

External funding may also be available in certain subject areas and/or for certain categories of student. UK-resident students are eligible to apply for Professional and Career Development Loans. A number of our overseas students obtain funding from the British Council or the Commonwealth Commission.

Value and eligibility criteria
School doctoral studentships cover fees and maintenance allowance at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. Studentships can be awarded to Home/EU or Overseas students and can be for full-time or part-time study. Only those students about to start their first year of study are eligible.
