Bursaries

British and American Friends Student Bursary

The British and American Friends of the IHR are generously supporting a bursary scheme for students of outstanding promise on the MA or MRes in Historical Research. All students who apply before the end of July 2017 will be eligible to apply for the bursaries, which are worth £3,000 each. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible. For part-time students the whole award will be made in the first year. Awards may not be deferred.

Award of the bursaries will be determined by a panel chaired by the Director of the IHR, and will be available for 2017-18. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • a first class or upper second class undergraduate degree, or the expectation of one
  • evidence of exceptional research potential
  • a firm intention to proceed to doctoral training or a research-related career

The panel may also take into account the content of academic references supplied as part of candidates’ applications to their programme. The awards will normally be made to candidates who are not in receipt of other funding.

Applications must be made by 5.00pm on 31 July 2017.
