 SAS Studentships

The School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London is offering postgraduate studentships, commencing October 2010, at master’s and doctoral level in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The SAS is a group of ten prestigious research Institutes, seven of which offer master’s programmes and doctoral supervision. More details about the Institutes and the courses they offer can be found by visiting the School of Advanced Study Website.

The School’s unique concentration of interdisciplinary Institutes offers an exciting venue for postgraduate work, including the unrivalled library collections in the Bloomsbury area. Students at the School enjoy full access to the academic, sporting and other facilities of the University, as well as proximity to the rich cultural offerings of London. SAS studentships can be held in any subject offered by the School.

AHRC Studentships

The School is also offering studentships under the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) new Block Grant Partnership (BGP) Scheme. Availability is subject to the outcome of the School’s bid to the AHRC. Subject-fields for studentships starting in Oct 2010 are as follows.

Doctoral study in the following areas:

  • History

Master’s (research preparation) in the following area

  • History

Master’s (professional preparation) in:

  • Law/ Human rights

Both AHRC and SAS Studentships are funded at the UK Research Council rate. A full studentship is offered to those meeting UK residency criteria which covers fees and maintenance allowance. The rates are currently £15,290 pa for doctoral students and £11,280 pa for Master’s students (2009/10). EU nationals resident in the EU/EEA are eligible for a fees-only studentship.

AHRC Collaborative Studentship

The Centre for Contemporary British History and the Rothschild Archive are offering a PhD studentship in 2010. This will be supervised by Professor Richard Roberts of CCBH and based primarily on the resources of the Rothschild Archive. For more information see http://ccbh.ac.uk/postgrad_rothschild.php
