Jenny Benham - PhD in History Interview

Dr Jenny Benham, Project Officer, Early English Laws, Institute of Historical Research

Dr Benham completed her PhD in 2006, and is currently working on the Early English Laws project at the IHR.

"I think sometimes when you're doing research you have to be quite hardnosed about it. It's really important not to take things personally when people say to you that this is not the right thing, or you need to look at this aspect of that particular topic, and you need to do this, or go away and read this. When you're doing your PhD you listen to a lot of people, and a lot of people may read certain parts of your chapters - that was certainly the case for me - and sometimes that can lead you off track, because one person will say go off and do this, and another person says go off and do that, and when you get into that situation it is important that you can trust your gut instinct."
