How to book

Booking the IHR Podcast Suite

The IHR is pleased to welcome the History community to make use of the podcast suite in the IHR at Senate House.

Location: IHR, North Block, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU

How to book: Please email ihr.podcasts@sas.ac.uk, including date, start and end times, and a brief description of the use you are making of the studio.

In advance

SD Card: You will need to bring in your own SD, of standard size. You can buy these online or at most electronics shops.

Familiarizing yourself with the recording equipment: You may wish to review instructions on how to use the equipment before the day of recording. We will provide you with a quickstart guide when we confirm your booking. This is also available as a hard copy in the room.

Detailed guides are found here:

On the Day

Please arrive with enough time to set up and check equipment settings before you need to start recording.

You can collect a key to the podcast suite from the IHR Reception. You will find the suite on the 3rd floor of the IHR, in room N302.

Setting up to Record

The recording equipment in the podcast room will be set up, though you may need to check and rearrange the plug ins for microphones and headphones. Please see links above for access to instructions.

Formatting your SD card: You may need to format your SD card after inserting it in the recording equipment. Instructions on how to do this are printed out in the room, and also found on page 83 of the Full User Manual

After Recording

Please remember to take your SD card with you, as this is the only place your recording is stored. The instructional guides also include information on how to access and sae your recording.

Please make sure the room is locked behind you and return the room key to the IHR reception desk.

Support from IHR Staff

Vanessa Rockel is your key contact for the podcast suite at the IHR. She will be happy to arrange your booking and point you to resources. The IHR is not equipped to provide technical support beyond arranging repairs to equipment, so please do acquaint yourself with the instructions in advance, as much as you are able to. When possible, Vanessa will meet you to show you the room and equipment before your first use of it.

Your Projects

We would be delighted to hear about what you get up to in the podcast suite. If you feel like sharing, please do so via the IHR’s BlueSky account, or even write a blog for the IHR’s On History blog!

We hope the studio is a helpful, enjoyable resource for you!
