William Cuffay was the black leader of London Chartism in 1848. While he has become a significant figure in Black British History his role in Chartism has been significantly downplayed.

Dr Keith Flett is convenor of the socialist history seminar at the Institute of Historical Research and specialises in nineteenth century labour history
