With only days before what may be the most consequential presidential election in American history in our lifetimes, the London POTUS Group will hold this Election Special in which experts from the worlds of diplomacy and the media discuss the key issues in the campaign.  Sir Christopher Meyer and Stephanie Baker will consider the impact of the COVID crisis on the presidential race, as well as the severe economic crisis triggered by the crisis.  To what extent will issues of race, and in particular the Black Lives Matter movement, affect the outcome of the election?  How have international issues, including the current tension between the United States and China, affected the campaign?  The strengths and weaknesses of Donald Trump and Joe Biden as campaigners will also be explored.  Stephanie Baker is Senior Writer at Bloomberg and Bloomberg Businessweek magazine, has reported on the Mueller investigation and the nature of Trump’s business empire, and is a regular contributor to the BBC current affairs programme Dateline. Sir Christopher Meyer has immense first-hand knowledge of Washington having served as Britain’s Ambassador to the United States from 1997 to 2003. He has also served as UK Ambassador to Germany and Chairman of the Press Complaints Commission, and is an Honorary Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge.
