Aimed at post graduate students and early career scholars with an interest in the value of Christian missionary archives for their research, this session will be led by Special Collections Archivist, Jo Ichimura. The session will be based in SOAS Library's Special Collections Reading Room and will be focused on the missionary archives and records at the Special Collections, with a display of materials from the archives and an opportunity to go behind the scenes to see how we store and care for the collections. We will take a broad look at the practical considerations around accessing archive collections and getting set up, navigating catalogues and lists, and thinking through research methodology when using archival materials, before focusing on the types of material found in missionary archives and how these might be used for a wide variety of research topics. There will be plenty of time for questions and we hope to have some interesting discussions as we work our way around the materials.
Meet in SOAS reception at 3pm for 3.30pm start - see our campus map at Plan your visit | SOAS
* Please note that there are a limited number of places available for this first session in Special Collections, so please book early by emailing Jo Ichimura at ji2@soas.ac.uk
