Drawing on material from the book England’s Green (2024), this talk will consider the shaping of environmental concern in England since the 1960s, addressing cultural and political debates around agriculture, nature and climate, and setting environmentalism in relation to wider cultural attention to the ‘Green’.
David Matless is Professor of Cultural Geography at the University of Nottingham. He is the author of England’s Green (2024), About England (2023), In the Nature of Landscape: Cultural Geography on the Norfolk Broads (2014) and Landscape and Englishness (1998).
