This seminar features a presentation of the Lancet Commission report on medicine during the Nazi era, shedding light on the involvement of healthcare professionals in the atrocities of that time. The discussion will focus on the report's key findings, particularly the ethical failures in medical practices during the Holocaust and their enduring implications for modern medical ethics. Building on these historical insights, the seminar will explore the ethical challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare today. Participants will discuss the parallels between past medical transgressions and current challenges in AI, such as accountability, bias, and the safeguarding of human rights. The seminar will emphasise the need for history-informed professional identity formation in public health, ensuring that learnings from the ethical failures of the past guide the responsible use of AI in medicine today.
All welcome- this session is free to attend but booking is required.
