A knight named W. Grassegals presented a codex to King Louis VII of France sometime early in his reign. The manuscript, produced in the Latin East, contains early copies of the chronicles by Fulcher of Chartres, Walter the Chancellor and Raymond of Aguilers and therefore remains one of the most important witnesses to the First Crusade and its aftermath. A dedicatory letter to the king was added later. Myra Bom will discuss the manuscript, its texts, and its context to present new conclusions on its transmission.
Dr Myra M Bom is a Supervisor of Medieval History at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Research Associate at Royal Holloway, University of London.
