Getting your first book published: an RHS / IHR workshop for Early Career Historians
On 15 July 2020 over 200 participants joined the IHR and RHS at the first online workshop for Early Career Historians looking to get their first book published. A panel of History commissioning editors discussed publishing options available to Early Career Historians.
Contributions came from:
- Emma Brennan (Editorial Director, History & Art History, Manchester University Press)
- Rhodri Mogford (History Publisher, Bloomsbury)
- Professor Jane Winters (series co-editor for the RHS’s New Historical Perspectives book series)
- Professor Margot Finn (UCL and President of the Royal Historical Society)
We were joined at the workshop by four recently published historians whose books were shortlisted for the RHS’s 2020 Gladstone and Whitfield first book awards: Dr Rob Waters (QMUL), Dr Niamh Gallagher (St Catharine’s, Cambridge), Dr Frances Houghton (Manchester) and Dr Stephen Spencer (King’s, London). They offered their experiences of working with a range of UK and US publishers.
