On the 13th January 2021; Tracey Hill (Bath Spa University) and Charlotte Berry (Bath Spa University) delivered a seminar on An Introduction to the Records of Early English Drama: Civic London 1558-1642 Project.

Principal Investigator Professor Tracey Hill and Post Doctoral Research Assistant, Dr Charlotte Berry introduced the work of the REED Civic London project, which has transcribed and published records of dramatic and musical performance in the City of London from the start of the reign of Elizabeth I to 1642.

Focussed on civic pageantry and performances sponsored by the City's livery companies, the project's research overturns the assumption that early modern London's governing bodies were opposed to drama and uninterested in theatrical traditions. This paper covered some of the exciting discoveries made by the project so far, including the early use of livery company halls as venues for theatrical performance.
