About the IHR archive

At the IHR, researchers can consult the institutional archives of:

  • Institute of Historical Research
  • Victoria County History

These archives comprise committee minute books, administrative correspondence, seminar registers, photographs and other items. This material documents the evolution of the IHR and VCH as hubs of historical learning, research and teaching during the course of the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Access to the archive

Access to archives held at the IHR can be provided by prior appointment only. Appointments should be made at least two weeks in advance to your visit.

Appointments to visit the archive cannot be guaranteed on particular days.

To make an appointment, please contact the SAS Archivist. Please note the IHR archive collections are usually available Monday to Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm (closed between 1 and 2pm).

The IHR Archives are closed on IHR Library closure days.

Digital photographs may be taken of most material for research purposes only, subject to signing the Self-Photography form which can be requested from the SAS Archivist.
