The Institute of Historical Research, The National Archives and the Royal Historical Society are delighted to announce a History and Archives in Practice (HAP) legacy event, ‘Archivists of History’.

With ‘Archivists of History’ we ask the question: what is our collective responsibility when it comes to collecting and archiving histories?

Join us in conversation with speakers who, while not archivists by trade, have been instrumental in collecting contemporary voices and communities.

Central to HAP is a focus on archival and research ‘practice’: creating opportunities to demonstrate and discuss how we work with historical collections, and what historians and archivists can achieve collectively. Let’s take this time to explore and reflect on what it means to collect contemporary stories and actively create history.

Sharing their experiences, our panel will speak to the processes, challenges and joys of collecting and curating collections born from action - collections that fill important gaps, that provide insight into personal histories and lived experiences, and that have been built from the ground up.
