There is lot of advice out there for sending proposals to publishers and taking text written for one purpose and translating that into another. What about the next step: making that text into a book?

This session will cover the basics of taking a manuscript and the stages of making it into a book and then how to go about helping your publisher find its market. Adam Chapman will look at the stages of book production from an author's point of view and unpack the black box of publishing while Kat Nelson will look at what goes into reaching an audience: what makes a good marketing brief? What are the different approaches you can use? What is a book launch for and how can you make a success of it?

Adam Chapman is the General Editor of the Victoria County History, part of the Centre for the History of People, Place and Community and a medieval historian. He is responsible for the publication programme of the longest established local history project in Britain and has worked with academic publishers for over a decade.
