Call for a fourth partner for #HAP26

Following HAP24, which took place at Cardiff University (Wednesday 6 March 2024), we are looking to take HAP across the country once more and partner with UK archive centres, large and small, to continue our engagement with collections and learning about good practice in the archives.

We are inviting organisations and institutions to submit their interest in becoming a partner for the forthcoming HAP26 event. Please complete the form by Monday 13  January, 2025.

Please note that you must be able to host #HAP26 in March 2026.

The form asks organisations to consider the following:

  • Why partner with HAP?
  • Details about the proposed venue (including accessibility provisions and proximity of spaces)
  • Technical provisions
  • Catering provisions
  • Access to and engagement with collections.

We ask that you ensure your chosen venue is available for one or two selected dates in March 2026, and that you will be able to reserve the relevant spaces to ensure their availability.

HAP organisers will be sifting applications in two parts:

  • Reviewing applications following the January deadline
  • Visiting a short list of selected venues to gauge suitability

‘History and Archives in Practice’ encourages a wide range of formats that best showcase a collection and the experience / lessons of collaborative working between archivists and historians on shared projects. We are particularly keen to highlight and support smaller organisations, underrepresented collections and marginalised voices as well as new and emerging research.

The fourth partner will work with HAP organisers in shaping the theme for the 2026 event. HAP organisers are keen to ensure that the event theme and subsequent cfp reflect the priorities of the fourth partner and speak to the history of the location itself.

Please note: there is no cost associated with HAP partnership. HAP organisers ask that the venue is offered in-kind. HAP organisers will cover the cost of catering and will continue to financially support the HAP bursary scheme.

Should you be interested in acting as a fourth partner for HAP26 and have any issues or questions regarding the logistics, please reach out to us via research@nationalarchives.gov.uk.

About ‘History and Archives in Practice'

What is HAP?

A partnership of The National Archives, Royal Historical Society, and the Institute of Historical Research, University of London, ‘History and Archives in Practice’ (HAP) is where historians and archivists come together to consider shared interests in archive collections, their interpretation and use.

Central to HAP is a focus on archival and research ‘practice’: creating opportunities to demonstrate and discuss how we work with historical collections, and what historians and archivists can achieve collectively. By making ‘practice’ central to HAP, we’ll also make more of collections themselves – with time to learn about selected archives and how historians and archivists work better together.
