Glasgow Life’s mission is to inspire Glasgow’s citizens and visitors to lead richer and more active lives through culture, sport and learning.

Continuing a tradition of community activism and engagement , Stand up and be counted aims to celebrate clubs and societies active in Glasgow between 1921/22 and 2021/22: to share their stories through records, to discuss lessons from their experience applicable today, and to stimulate contemporary collecting for preservation- People Make Glasgow Communities.

The diverse clubs and societies of Glasgow’s local communities - unions, co-operatives and friendly societies; sports and arts clubs, drama groups, choirs and musical associations; scientific, charitable and philanthropic endeavours - reflect the interests, and promote the concerns of residents over the course of a century.

These collections contain fascinating records that document their activities and allow a perspective on their aspirations, how the groups worked, their membership, meeting places and times, and, importantly, open up their stories, legacy and influence.

Details about this project and events will be available soon.
