Speaker: Simon Newman (University of Wisconsin-Madision)

In this paper Simon Newman will discuss some examples of resistance to slavery by means of escape in early modern London. In addition to assessing the larger historical significance of these individual stories, he will examine how collaboration with young Black and South Asian poets and artists in London has enhanced the contemporary relevance of this aspect of London’s history.
