The Victoria County History of Bedfordshire
Bedfordshire was completed in three volumes between 1904 and 1912, with a separate index volume produced in 1914. It owed much to the 18th-century tradition of the scientific study of the local environment with sections in Volume I (1904) on geology and natural history as well as prehistory, Anglo-Saxon archaeology, the Domesday Book, ecclesiastical history and religious houses. The hundreds and parishes were handled topographically in Volumes II and III.
All three volumes are available free on British History Online.
