Work in progress

Work on this volume began in October 2013. The research for the accounts of the town and parish of Cirencester and Stratton has been largely completed. Draft sections are now being edited and made available as soon as they are ready for comment via the VCH Gloucestershire Academy website.

Research is ongoing for the remaining parishes in the volume:

  • Bagendon
  • Baunton
  • Coates
  • Daglingworth
  • Duntisbourne Abbots
  • Duntisbourne Rous
  • Preston
  • Siddington

The Gloucestershire County History Trust gratefully acknowledges the very generous and early support of the K.D. Winstone Charitable Trust, which has pledged substantial sums for each of the first four years of planned work on Cirencester.

Dr Beth Hartland's draft of the history of the Cirencester Abbey and the history of Cirencester from 1540 to 1945 written by Dr Francis Boorman with the assistance of a number of volunteers are available below. As indicated in the text a few sections are still outstanding. Revised drafts and the history of medieval Cirencester and the history of Stratton will be available shortly.

Comments on the drafts are very welcome, and can be sent by email to Dr Jan Broadway.
