VCH Warwickshire Publications

Volumes I and II were published in 1904 and 1908. No more volumes were published until in 1935 when the county was selected for a pilot project. Five volumes followed and in 1969 the series was completed in eight volumes. Volume VII in the series was devoted to Birmingham and Volume VIII to the city of Coventry and the borough of Warwick.

Volume III - Barlichway Hundred

Edited by Philip Styles, this volume was published in 1945.

The volume covers the hundred of Barlichway, in the south-west of the county. It includes the towns of Henley-in-Arden and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Volume IV - Hemlingford Hundred

Edited by L.F. Salzman, this volume was published in 1947.

Hemlingford hundred lies in the north of the county, to the north and east of Birmingham. The volume covers several parishes now near or within the Birmingham area, as well as the boroughs of Sutton Coldfield and Nuneaton. Birmingham itself is covered in volume VII.

Volume V - Kington Hundred

Edited by L F Salzman, this volume was published in 1949.

Kington hundred lies directly south of Warwick, between the rivers Avon to the west and Itchen to the east. The volume covers the 54 parishes of the hundred, including Atherstone-on-Stour, Brailes and Kineton.

Volume VI - Knightlow Hundred

Edited by L.F. Salzman, this volume was published in 1951.

The volume covers Knightlow hundred, in the south-east corner of the county, and bordering Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. It covers the areas surrounding Coventry and Warwick, and includes an account of the boroughs of Leamington Spa and Rugby. (Coventry and Warwick themselves are treated separately, in volume VIII.)

Volume VII - The City of Birmingham
