The Victoria County History of Wiltshire
Wiltshire is an important county in the history of the VCH and the 'Wiltshire Model' of collaboration between the Institute of Historical Research and the local authority formed the basis for much of the project's work in the 50 years after the Second World War.
Eighteen volumes of the Victoria County History of Wiltshire have been published to date. The Wiltshire Victoria County History Trust was formed in 2013 to help fund the completion of the Wiltshire series of the VCH.
Researchers are currently working on Volume XX, covering the town of Chippenham and its surroundings, and Volume XIX covering the area around Mere in the south of the county. Following a local fundraising campaign, we have now started work on Volume XXI, covering the ancient hundreds of Alderbury and Frustfield in the south-east of the county. More details about the project can be found on the Trust's website.
Sixteen volumes are available on British History Online. For full access to all volumes, check your local library catalogue or your local archive.
